Czechia has made an important change to its Energy Act, increasing the licence threshold for electricity generation from 50 kW to 100 kW. This new rule applies to solar panels used for self-consumption or free sharing of electricity.
The change continues a clear trend. In 2023, the limit was already raised from 10 kW to 50 kW. Now, by doubling it again, Czechia is making it easier for homeowners, companies, and communities to install solar panels without needing extra licences.
The new law also brings clarity to electricity storage systems. If storage is connected to a solar power plant and its size is no more than 20% higher than the plant, no separate licence is needed. This change supports the use of solar energy solutions with storage, helping users save more electricity and improve efficiency.
Czechia's solar market is growing fast. In the first half of 2025 alone, the country deployed 357 MW, bringing the total installed capacity to over 4.8 GW, according to the Czech solar association.
